Original Toronto Star caption: Racing winter to the sea. As ice begins to form on the waterfront; the Swedish freighter Borgholm clears Toronto in a race against the freeze-up. Locks between Lake Ontario and Montereal were to close officially today but are kept open on a day-to-day basis. The ship's chances are good despite our cold snap because water is at 40 degrees.
