Original Toronto Star caption: Six hours after his wife abandoned her car in a drift on Steeles Ave. west of Markham Rd.; Gord Arnott of Markham starts digging it out late last night. Hundreds of traffic accidents were reported in York and Durham Regions as motorists tried to get home. Unable to reach the scene of most mishaps; police spent the better part of the day closing down roads and highways made impassable by drifting snow and whiteouts; they said.
