Original Toronto Star caption: The early pickets: About 10 Bell Canada workers started picketing the Bell building on Adelaide St. W. shortly after midnight today after they were locked out. Mickey the poddle joined its master; Gord Plumondon; on the line. He is among 15;000 technicians and installers who have decided on a full-scale walkout starting today across Ontario and Quebec. Union officials expect the walkout to go on for some time. Without a contract since last Nov. 30; they are seeking a 17 per cent wage increase.
