Original Toronto Star caption: An old apple tree on Glen Edyth Dr. near Casa Loma provides shade for Gemma Cowhig and reputedly inspired a visiting New Yorker to write on of North America's best-loved songs; In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree; in 1905. The director of the Toronto Historical board calls the story a romantic legend.
