Original Toronto Star caption: Starting; as a stenographer in the gold rush to Northern Ontario in 1907; Mrs. Martin built her fortune in a few years and retired to this home on the shores of Lake Ontario near Oakville. Servants and friends got bequests as well as her half brother; Pte. Ben R. Violette of the U.S. army. Toronto and Oakville Humane societies received substantial bequests.
