Original Toronto Star caption: Beauty contests just ain't what they used to be. These days; the spotlight seems to be more on the emcee than the girls. And the contestants all look so uniformly; er; svelte. None of the interesting proportions the girls in the first Miss Toronto contest (above) displayed in 1926. The pageant was held on the boardwalk at Sunnyside beach. This photo; from the James collection; is among some 50;000 historic pictures in the City of Toronto archives.
