Original Toronto Star caption: Super Canel: The Canadian National Institute of the Blind's Academic Aids trade show features an assortment of devices designed to ease the handicap of being blind. Highlights of the show; at the Continuing Education Building at Gould and Victoria Sts.; include a machine that instantly translates the written word to braille and this Nurion Laser Cane; demonstrated by CNIB orientation and mobility specialist Susan Gammage. The cane has a laser sensor (inset) that allows the blind person to locate objects without touching them and warns the user of tricky obstacles; such as this table top; something a normal white cane could miss.
