Original Toronto Star caption: Hearst Indian charges French there biased. The Ontario Human Rights Commission today revealed plans to investigate charges made by a 24-year-old Cree that French-speaking residents of Hearst; in northern Ontario; are discriminating against Indians of the Constable Lake band. Louis Bird told the commission yesterday that Indians are being mistreated by town residents and discriminated against in jobs. Bird said Indians from the reserve took up a collection to send him to Toronto so he could tell officials of their troubles. He said Indians can not go into the town without being beaten up - or thrown into jail. [Incomplete]
