Original Toronto Star caption: A Birthday present wrapped in Tartans; It was a wish come true when three of Fred Black's granddaughters; and rest of Toronto Girls' Pipe Band gave a concert yesterday at Sunnybrook Medical Centre to celebrate his 88th birthday. Seen with him are piper Brenda Black (left); 21; drummer Kelly Black; 13; and drummer Jennifer Black; 15. He's been asking to see us and the band play for I don't know how long; Brenda said.

A dream come true for former Scarborough insurance man Frederick Carlisle is his three-hulled Caravel II. He bought it 5 years ago for $25,000 and has cruised more than 20,000 miles with his daughters Nora, 11 (left) and Mary, 13, (right) and his wife. During the five-year getaway on the world's oceans the girls managed to pick up six years' credits on their correspondence courses. The Carlisles are thinking of crossing the Atlantic Ocean a second time next year.
