Original Toronto Star caption: Former Foes, Karl Claessens, left, and Pat Russell toast their post-World War II friendship with snifters of cognac. During the confusion of the North African desert campaign, Claessens, now a Canadian, mistook Russell for a German soldier and ended up as the British officer's prisoner of war - they later became friends.
