Original Toronto Star caption: Olympic Urn atop Mount Royal is lit last night by Gerard Cote; 63; a marathon runner who is legendary in Quebec province. Flame lights up giant cross that dominates east slope of the mountain. We wanted to welcome the Olympic flame in a very special place; said Mayor Jean Drapeau. The flame; which was sent from Greece to Ottawa by laser and run to Montreal was to be run to Olympic stadium today.
