Original Toronto Star caption: Karate exercises keep the Paige family physically fit. Even Jan; 5; left; is a serious student of the old Japanese martial art and tries to keep pace with sister Joy; 13; and brother Kenny; 10; right. They are children of Ned Paige; doctor of optometry; who has studied karate for six years; and his wife; who has been a karate-ka for five years. Children don't start karate until 7 or 8 but exception was made in Jan's case. Zen philosophy that goes with karate; that of living in the present only not in past or future; will help children; their parents believe.
