The studio is a portable schoolhouse which the Madsens erected near the barn on the 100-acre farm. Mrs. Madsen and h er late husband; John Madsen; bought the farm in 1945 on which to found Canada's first folk school; modelled on those in their native Denmark. The farm is now a retreat house for women.
