Original Toronto Star caption: Education In Metro Takes A Long Leap Backward; Marion Peart; dressed as a teacher might have in 1861 teaches her Grade 5 class of children from Etobicoke's Sunnylea Public School?some also dressed in costumes of that era?in a school room at Metro's Pioneer Village. The 32 children attend classes in the old brick rural schoolhouse; using slateboards. They have no textbooks; and keep a wood fire going in the stove. To learn what pioneer life was like; they watch blacksmith at his work; bread baking; spinning and weaving.
