Nouara, a straight Egyptian mare, posed before the Toronto Stock Exchange yesterday to publicize the listing of Stonebridge Inc., the first horsebreeder to be listed on the exchange. Accompanying the horse are executives of the company (left to right): Mark Coles, Kim Gladwish, Gordon Coles and Maryelien Coles.

William R. Lilliott, chairman of U.S.-owned Merrill Lynch, Royal Securities Ltd. of Toronto, is scheduled to become the new chairman of the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSE) board of governors. The Georgia-born former U.S. submarine officer was the first representative of a foreign-owned brokerage firm to be elected to the exchange board. He's optimistic that markets will begin to rise.
