Original Toronto Star caption: Cut ice channel as precautionary flood measure; Anxious to prevent a recurrence of serious floods that have worried Belleville annually during the spring break-up of the Moira river; ice-cutters are busy cutting a 1;100-foot channel in the ice covering the mouth of the river. Three motor-saws operated by expert ice-cutters move up and down the ice hacking off large blocks. The apparatus that lifts the ice from the water to a platform is shown Top.
