Original Toronto Star caption: Pageantry at Parliament's opening: Members of Parliament; senators; their wives; judicial; diplomatic church and military dignitaries crowd the Senate chamber yesterday as Governor-General Roland Michener reads the Speech from the Throne at the opening of Canada's 29th Parliament. When the formalities ended; the Parliament buildings; became the scene of one big party. Bars sprang up in front of potted ferns and rubber plants. Hundreds of dignitaries mingled; drank and smoked while an eight-piece RCMP string orchestra played waltzes and ballads.
