The 18-room stucco and fieldstone house and its 265-acre estate cost $300,000 when the Metro Toronto and Region Conservation Authority bought it from Jack Regan, Scarboro businessman, Metro parks department will develop it into a park, a golf course, or if Scarboro Reeve A.M. Campbell (shown in drawing-room) has his way, a second Metro zoo. The house was two years ago. Since then the house, on Kirkhams Rd. between Finch and Sheppard Aves. has stood vacant. Even the cutlery remains in the drawers and books on the shelves. Ultimately built in 1936 by Dr. Robert Jackson, vegetarian, health zealot and manufacturer of Roman Meal bread and cereal. He poured $158,000 into it before he died in 1941.
