Original Toronto Star caption: Eglinton Ave. east of Midland Ave. is one of the areas described as esthetic disasters by Scarborough Mayor Paul Cosgrove in his inaugural address. This view of the north side of the street is looking east. Hamburger shops, pizza palaces, fish-and-chips stands, service stations and car dealers with strings of gaudy pennants are jumbled in the borough downtown. Cosgrove thinks Scarborough was the only municipality in the world with its offices - before the new civic centre opened - squeezed in between a fish-and-chips stand and a used car lot.
