Original Toronto Star caption: On way to inquest, Constables Jerry McEwen, left, and Robert Admans escort correctional officer Ed Czajkowski and prisoner Richard Beavans. Beavans, in handcuffs, testified today that prisoners who died in the Stratford jail fire in December were planning an escape and talked about starting a fire as part of the plan. Beavans told the inquest jury he was not in the cellblock where fire broke out Dec. 18.
