Original Toronto Star caption: A job-quitting epidemic among iron-workers at the $110 million Toronto-Dominion Centre on King St. W. - caused by a dispute over which union should install the windows-ended today. Tuesday; 140 ironworkers failed to show for work and 45 others quit after two hours on the job. Steel work was stalled at the 46th floor of the 56-storey skyscraper. The international Association of Bridge; Structural and Ornamental Iron workers wanted an agreement with Canadian Pittsburgh Industries Ltd.; which holds the $2;000;000 sub-contract for installation of glass. Pittsburgh; however; has an agreement with the glaziers' section of the Painters' and Decorators' union for the job. After a few phone calls last might; union officials agreed to stay with an agreement they made in October: Ironworkers will put in the outer frame; and the glaziers will install the glass and inside stop.

Emmauel Bourdos, whose take-home pay as a hospital orderly is about $110 a week, helps the two eldest of his six children with their homework as the family gathers around the table. From the left are Bourdos, Photini, 11, Margaret, 10, Mrs. Bourdos holding Dino, 2, Tina, 5, and Bessie, S. Bourdos is one of 6,000 Metro hospital workers who are preparing to risk the consequences of an illegal strike to get a decent wage comparable to that in similar work.
