Original Toronto Star caption: Unknown incendiarists were sought by Sergeant of Detectives Walter McConnell and Lockhart Trinnell; Toronto's arson squad; as fires were started in three separate places in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic church on Sherbourne St. to-day. Large and small votive candles; some of the eight-day type; were stolen from the church offices and used as torches to fire frame partitions in the basement. The basement fires were discovered by the daughter of Caretaker Patrick McGinn before they did much damage; but the main blaze in the sacristy destroyed thousands of dollars in rich vestments and altar cloths before firemen could extinguish the flames. The church is shown in (1). The photograph was taken when fire formerly attacked the same church and a Toronto fireman was killed in a fall from a ladder.
