Original Toronto Star caption: A Million-Dollar Look for The CNE; Douglas Wells; businesman; sportsman and showman; has submitted a plan to revolutionize the CNE. It includes a two-level grandstand stage (model); 330 feet long; running down the centre of the CNE FOOTBALL FIELD. Roofed stands on both sides would create 12;000 extra seats so prices could be cut sharply. His stage would cost $1;000;000 and he'd like to see it used by all-Canadian casts. Wells also would build picturesque islands in the lake with a steel-and-concrete parking garage under them. Access to the islands would be by monorail and covered walkways. One island could accommodate the midway; Wells considers it raucous competition to the grandstand shows. On another he'd build a 1;200-foot tower with a restaurant-observation tower on top. Plan will be studied.
