1912 annual report notes: "During the last week of November and the first part of December an exhibition of gift books for children was held in the art rooms of the Reference Library. The books on exhibition represented the great variety of the interests of children and were grouped in separate classes, such as Nature Study, Natural History, Travel, Canadian History, etc. Fifteen hundred visitors availed themselves of the opportunity to make a selection of books for children's holiday reading, and to enjoy examining the beautiful editions and the attractive illustrations
of the books themselves."
