Original Toronto Star caption: Longer days: Kindergarten students at Orde Public School are taught Chinese songs by Mi Ling Cheung during 30-minute class at the end of the normal school day. Toronto school board has allowed such classes since 1982 despite opposition from teachers and now pupils study 11 different heritage languages at 18 schools.
