Original Toronto Star caption: A quilt for a subway. Believed by its creator to be largest ship in North America; this 30-by-7-foot work; called Barren Ground Caribou; will be hung at Kendall St. station - a converted Victorian house-of Spadina subway. It was designed by Toronto artist Joyce Wieland (middle) and took three people eight months to complete the sewing. It will be covered by an airtight glass case at the station. With artist is her sister; Joan Stewart (left) and Louisa Leighton.
