Original Toronto Star caption: Little Haitian Boys perform an impromptu number on bamboo horns hoping passing tourists will toss them a few coins. Poverty on the island is staggering but cruise ship passengers aren't allowed to catch more than a glimpse as they're shepherded by limousine from shop to souvenir stand to local sights. Despite the conditions under which they have to live the ordinary people of the island; particularly the villagers; are gentle and polite to strangers; though shy.
