Original Toronto Star caption: The wailing wall within the old city of Jerusalem - a portion of one retaining wall of the original temple of Solomon which was destroyed in 586 BC - is a holy place for Jews the world over; who gather there to offer prayers as these men are doing. There is a tradition of written prayers; too; and the crevices of the wall as high as human arms can reach are stuffed full of tiny pieces of paper bearing them.
