Original Toronto Star caption: Nepalese farming follows the old ways as does much of life in the mountainous kingdom. Only open to visitors since 1954; the land is a museum of almost medieval life. From 1826 to 1951 it was ruled by a family of hereditary prime ministers; the Ranas; who kept the king a virtual prisoner and built themselves palaces. But now the royal family is in command and the Ranas are ordinary citizens.
