Original Toronto Star caption: From court to copy desk in 70 seconds. The Star inaugurates to-day its pneumatic tube system from the City Hall to the copy desk in the editorial room of The Star building. Copy from City Hall; courts and police beats will reach The Star in 70 seconds. It is the first time on record that a newspaper has established direct tube connection with headquarters of a beat. The photographs here show : (1) View of City Hall; where press room in which one end of pneumatic tube is stationed. (2) The Star end of the air tube in the city room. A copy boy is seen holding one of the cylindrical copy carriers. The city copy desk is immediately adjacent to this end of the line. (3) Recent sketch of The Star building. (4) Diagram showing underground route of air tube from City Hall to The Star building; also connection with C. N. telegraphs and (5) Air tube station in press-room at City Hall; which is in charge of a boy who inserts copy.
