Uncle Frank Dawson tends to one of his injured wildfowl at his 3 3/4-acre conservation area on Elmcrest Rd. The 83-year-old bachelor has been patching up injured birds for as long as anyone can remember. With a small creek running through the back, his property has become a haven for hundreds of waterfowl. He has lived in the same house for over 50 years and has raised a varietyof birds. But Dawson can't recall when people started to bring birds to him, he said.

Campaigning by horse and buggy, Gordon Clarke, running for alderman in Scarborough's Ward 12, hands a pamphlet to his neighbor Aubrey Crowhurst, who owns the horse, My Lenny Boy, and the buggy, an antique built by the McLaughlin Carriage Works. Clarke lives in a century-old farmhouse off Meadow-vale Rd. West Hill. He's also using a mobile home in his campaign. Advance polling in city and boroughs will be tomorrow, next Thrusday and next Saturday.

W. H. Thornburn, chairman of the Toronto Stock Exchange board of governors, sees a small revival of confidence by Canadian investors, but much less than I had expected by this time. He forecasts continued sluggishness in trading until corporate earnings improve. Thornburn thinks there could be new speculation in oil and gas stocks when results of winter drilling become available. Cost-cutting and other controls have prepared brokers for any new storms, he says.
