Original Toronto Star caption: Enter Douglas Fairbanks . . . exit squire Allsworthy. It takes a full 90 minutes of painstaking artistry by CBC makeup artist Nicki Balch; and imperturbable patience by Douglas Fair-banks Jr. to complete the metamorphosis of the actor's familiar profile into the 18th century features of Squire Allsworthy for CBC's musical version of Tom Jones. Fairbanks also narrates the production; one of the O'Keefe Centre Presents series; with telecast date yet to be announced. First step in the transformation is to glue on a foam rubber chin and nose; which must be sculpted and toned to blend with the actor's own skin. Next come bushy eyebrows; then the wig; then final makeup touches. At last; in period costume; Squire Allsworthy emerges on stage from the dressing room.
