Original Toronto Star caption: Ribbon-Cuttings needn't be dry and dull. Officially opening the Iroquois Park swimming pool in Whitby yesterday; Mayor J.C. Gartshore (centre) had a few qualms about cutting the ribbon from a canoe - but he went ahead and the ribbon fell into the water. Wayne DeVeau; Whitby parks and recreation director; paddled in the stern Joe Ottenbrite; chaiman of the fund-raising committee for the pool; was in the bow. Afterward; there were swimming and diving shows; life-saving demonstrations; public swimming.
