Original Toronto Star caption: A head nurse at the Hospital for Sick Children did not believe nurse Susan Nelles could have killed babies in her care; even after police launched a homicide inquiry. I could only believe that; if somehow this turned out to be possible; she must have been insane - that's not the Susan I know; cardiacward head nurse Mary Costello told the Grange royal commission; which is investgating a series of mysterious baby deaths at the hospital. Costello; who has 31 years' nursing experience; was head nurse of Cardiac Ward 4B from April; 1980; until August; 1982; when she moved to Riverdale Hospital where she is responsible for nursing education.
