Original Toronto Star caption: Montreal's welcome to the King and Queen was a roar hours long. From 1;500;000 throats came cheers and cries of greeting; rising to a climax when their majestics appeared on the steps of the city hall. Here they are seen; the Queen bearing a beautiful bouquet; with jovial Mayor Houde of Montreal beside them; beaming the city's welcome. White-helmeted police and uniformed guards stand by. The mayor presented the King with an illuminated address just before Mrs. Houde gave the Queen the bouquet which is shown here; then the city's Golden Book was offered for their signatures. Their names were first in the new volume.
