Original Toronto Star caption: King Edward public school, Burton Ave., Barrie, has an unusual fire escape made of sheet metal on steel supports that looks just like a laundry chute. The smallest child may escape by it without fright or danger, starting from the top, 30 feet above the ground. The children welcome a fire-drill and treat the escape as a park slide. Two Barrie children, Helen Storey and Madge Scruten, are shown in the foreground
