Original Toronto Star caption: Ignat Kaneff stands atop his 22-storey-high Mississauga Towers apartment building in Cooksville against a backdrop of apartments, many of which he has built. He's Mississauga's largest landlord, and his multi-million dollar apartment empire stretches from Cooksville to Brampton to Toronto. When he arrived in Cooksville from Bulgaria in 1951 he took a job as a $1.10-an-hour laborer. He worked 16 hours a day to become a millionaire.
