Original Toronto Star caption: Under chill skies which lent a suitably sombre air to the occasion, work on Toronto's bustling waterfront came to a halt at noon today for a mass in honor of President John Fitzgerald Kennedy. About 100 longshoremen and harbor office workers attended the service conducted by Father J. R. Brown, Port Chaplain of the St. Mary's Seaman's Club. The makeshift altar was formed by two stacks of wooden cargo pallets covered with plastic tarpaulins. This mass was conducted on Pier 15. A similar Protestant memorial service was held on Pier 11.
