Original Toronto Star caption: It's traditional that royalty or a representative attend the Queen's Plate race. On Saturday, Canada's Governor-General Roland Michener and Mrs. Michener arrived in their horse-drawn landau to be greeted by Jockey Club chairman E. P. Taylor, whose back is to the camera. Colorfully garbed members of the Governor-General's Horse Guards accompanied the landau on its circuit of the track. Queen's Plate has run consecutively longer than any race in North America.
