Original Toronto Star caption: Toronto Lawyer helped in dancer's defection. A key figure in the defection last weekend of Soviet ballet star Likhail Barichnikov (centre) is James Peterson, a 32-year-old Toronto lawyer (right). He says Christina Berlin, 26 (left), who works in London for Cosmopolitan magazine, is with the dancer in hiding someplace in the Metro area but he wouldn't speculate about a romantic attachment between them. Peterson contacted immigration officials last Thursday, two days before Barichnikov disappeared from the Bolshoi Ballet troupe, and asked how they would react to the news that a Soviet citizen was defecting.
