Original Toronto Star caption: Garment workers protest imports. Cliff Pilkey, president of the Ontario Federation of Labor, speaks to some of more than 700 members of International Ladies' Garment Workers Union who walked off job yesterday to protest cheap imports. Union says 20 factories have closed with a loss of 887 jobs since 1973 as imports have taken about 55 per cent of the market, up from about 35 per cent. Industry officials co-operated with demonstration because the industry has an anti-import policy.
