Original Toronto Star caption: Papal motorcade, The long lines of police officers on either side of Avenue Rd. south of St. Clair Ave. along with the motorcycle escort and the bullet- and bomb-proof popemobile were all forceful reminders for onlookers of the precautions taken to protect the Pope. At one point near Wilson Ave. hundreds of people flooded on to the street to get a closer look and had to be ordered back by police. More than 8,000 members of the RCMP, OPP, and Metro police, as weel military personnel, are involved in guarding the Pope during his visit here.
