Original Toronto Star caption: Two CNE thrills. The grand old CNE is designed to give a lift to everyone who visits it and one of the uplifting sights yesterday was a display of kite flying by Mike Robertson and Leslie Hood in an Aquarama show over the waterfront. Then there was the lucky girl who really felt uplifted when she was crowned the first queen of the Ex. I'm so excited I don't know what to say, was all 18-year-old Debbie Carter (right) could get out after she beat 52 other winners from agricultural fairs across Ontario for the $1,000 first prize. Debbie, a clerk with the Department of National Revenue in Richmond Hill, said she's going to put her money in the bank and watch it grow. She and her fiance are saving to buy a house when they get married in two years. First runner-up was 17-year-old Carol Styres from Ohsweken. Karen Livingstone of Markdale was second runner-up. Miss Livingstone, 16, also was named Miss Congeniality by the other contestants.
