Uncle Frank Dawson tends to one of his injured wildfowl at his 3 3/4-acre conservation area on Elmcrest Rd. The 83-year-old bachelor has been patching up injured birds for as long as anyone can remember. With a small creek running through the back, his property has become a haven for hundreds of waterfowl. He has lived in the same house for over 50 years and has raised a varietyof birds. But Dawson can't recall when people started to bring birds to him, he said.

His weapon's the Dash-8: Air Atonabee president Joe Csumrik of Peterborough is staking $30 million on the 2-engined, 36-passenger de Havilland Dash 8, to gain the lion's share of the Toronto Ottawa-Montreal business passenger trade. John Gilmore of Montreal is betting $35 million on the Dash 7. It'll be no contest, says Csumrik, above, in the cockpit of his firm's plane.

Startled motorists think be's outs when they bear security man Mark Carter sitting at a stoplight, singing and clicking his fingers, but most drive off with a smile. On the right track: Renowed architect Ralph Erskine of Sweden says Toronto's downtown and waterfront areas will undergo an exciting transformation by the year 2001. Where railways now divide city dwellers from the lake. Erskine sees gardens, housing, shops and theatres springing up over the next 20 years - adding new life to the city. But he wants that Metro's highrise suburbs could become ghettos.

Tortured. By Peter Rickwood Toronto Star. A 33-year-old Canadian Sikh say he got on help from the Canadian High Commission when police in India detained and tortured him as he was about to fly home. Dalbar Sidhu, a Kitchener auto worker, told a Toronto news conference yesterday he was held at New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport for two days. He claims he was denied foor and seep, was threatened with revolver and had his fingernails pulled and hair tugged out of his beard and scalp. His wife Satwant, who was travelling with him, contacted the Canadian High Commission in New Delhi after his arrest said. [Incomplete]

The count of boulogne is 8-year-old Henri Louis de Bourbon, a pupil at Bedford Park Public School who'd rather play with his rocket and his cat, Fluffy, than talk about how it feels to be a French count. He became one when his grandfather Prince Louis Jean Henri Charles de Bourbon, a descendant of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoninette, died in Holland a t 64.
