The Garys. Promoters. Ten years along, Gary Cormier and Gary Topp (in photo at right) - a/k/a The Garys - are still flinty pioneers in the high-mortality field of concert promotion. Legendary for their early shows with The Police, including a gig at the Horseshoe Tavern that has swelled to near-mythic status, Cormier and Topp still take chances on great unknowns while hoisting the banner for enduring punks such as Iggy Pop and The Ramones. Kidney specialist Dr. Paul Tam vowed to bring a $1 million kidney dialysis unit to Scarborough after Gary Belz died of a heart attack due to kidney failure more than two years ago. Tam said if Belz, then 37, hadn't had to wait a month for dialysis treatment at a downtown hospital, he would still be alive today. And Tam said the dozens of patients who travel downtown for dialysis would have a much, much better quality of life if a unit were Scaborough. But after [Incomplete]

Behind counter of his flagship Diana Sweets stores, company president George Boukydis ponders the future of his $6 million a year enterprise. Stores stopped selling candy some years ago when firm's key candy maker retired after 45 years of service. An adequate replacement was not found and now, says Boukydis, it's getting tough to find pastry cooks. The supermarkets are stealing what few there are left.

Game of chinese checkers is enjoyed by Professor James Lemon, his wife Carolyn and children Catherine, 1, Janet, 4, and margaret, 9, in their Walmer Road home. Although earning a salary of $15,000 teaching geography at the University of Toronto, Dr. Lemon describes his living as relatively frugal and finds the family budget getting tight. Although he has a car, he walks to work.
