Final check: John Crook of Oshawa inspects one of the steam engines he has built. Some of his collection will be on display at the Steam Threshing Days in Uxbridge this weekend. He grew to love steam engines while helping on his father's farm in the 1930s.

Sight for sore eyes: Harold Bayham, a 57-year-old Torontonian, has collected almost 14,000 pairs of cast-off eyeglasses, which he takes to give away to the poor people of the Dominican Republic. He started his project with a single magazine advertisement.

Refinishing pine tool moulds is just one of the projects 27-year-old Bill Don has taken on since he and he and his wife Bev decided to fulfil his life's dream, to run their own store. Ardith One, on Yonge St., features antiques and artifacts the pair has collected over the past two years. The young couple say that mixing marriage and business has given them something to work on for the rest of their lives.
