Frank Crane: The opera singer turned antique dealer was tired of the urban jungle so he retreated into the woods with his wife, Verena, and built himself a log cabin. And you can see the cabin Frank built! It's cathedral sized. Just the thing for housing such treasures as the Chinese tomb figure from the T'ang period (618 to 906 A.D.) which he is holding. These things are on trust, he says.

A Romp with Abeydale the dog or a snowmobile ride offers more pleasure to Ron Caisley than the bright lights of distant Toronto. Caisley and his wife Susie built a log cabin home 50 miles north west of the sprawling metropolis. With the help of friends, they tppled 40 pine trees for the buildings.

Game of chinese checkers is enjoyed by Professor James Lemon, his wife Carolyn and children Catherine, 1, Janet, 4, and margaret, 9, in their Walmer Road home. Although earning a salary of $15,000 teaching geography at the University of Toronto, Dr. Lemon describes his living as relatively frugal and finds the family budget getting tight. Although he has a car, he walks to work.

Creating with wood: Marvin Christi (above) uses modern chainsaws and old-time hand instruments to prepare the logs with which he builds houses. Each is unique: Orono artist Ron Barber (right) carves a different decoration for each Christie creation, in this case a painstakingly detailed eagle on a crooked beam that will project from the house over the front door.
