Medical students can experiment and practise more effectively on computers and robots than on animals, a Washington physician says. Dr. Neal Barnard, 34, a psychiatrist who founded the Physicians' Committee for Responsible Medicine in 1984, told a seminar yesterday at a Toronto hospital that the medical community must weigh the interests of the animals before using them.

Stores stopped selling candy some years ago when firm's key candy maker retired after 45 years of service. An adequate replacement was not found and now, says Boukydis, it's getting tough to find pastry cooks. The supermarkets are stealing what few there are left.
