Transport of the future, an air-cushioned vehicle for use on rough terrain, is being developed at the U of T Institute for Space Studies. Dr. Rod Tennyson explains how it works to Henry McKay.The vehicle would be particularly useful in the far North. Dr. Robert Bruce, Is to direct the new Toronto branch of an international institute for cancer research funded by billionaire Daniel Ludwig. Bruce will continue his search for the cause of cancers linked to diet, because these have a chance of being prevented. There is some problem with diet and our approach will be to find out what that problem is, Bruce says.

Tracing disease: Dr. Jim Nethercott looks at a slide of herpes virus at St. Michael's Hospital before he places it on his microscope. Since herpes isn't a reportable disease, there are no statistics showing how many people have active outbreaks, but the number of Canadians infected with genital herpes is estimated at 250,000 to 500,000.

A medical first was performed by Dr. William Lougheed, a neurosurgeon and assistant professor at the University of Toronto, when he took vein from a woman's leg and transplanted it into her head to replace a blocked artery that caused a stroke. He's shown with the type of microscope used in surgery.
