He wants money: Dr. Mario Piacenza of the southern Italian town of Altomonte is in Toronto lookin for funds to build a school for peasant children. He's hoping to get it from the parents of the children he's leading here - natives of Alomonte who left their home town for North America. So far, he's visited 7 cities on a 3-month North American tour but has raised only $2,000 of the $20,000 he needs. He's had a picnic with Altomonteans here and plans another one.

Alex Balfour, who is retiring as principal of Pine Grove Public School after 33 years as a teacher and principal, reclines in the chaise longue given him as a farewell present and shows Jim Singleton of the Halton County Board of Education what he's going to do in retirement. Big Jim Leeson parks his Cessna Skyplane, zips up his jacket and goes to pay a house call. By flying, Wiarton's Dr. Leeson figures he's beaten one of the biggest problems facing the progessive rural doctor today: Isolation from his colleagues and the big city medical centres. With his Cessna he can hop down to Toronto in an hour for a lecture. Still, he admits, a rural practice might not be every doctor's cup of tea, I'm a farm boy myself...I'm used to it, he says.

Wider, please: Dr. Seymour Tobe checks out the mouth of his patient, a Doberman named Vinny, who needs a brace to correct an out-of-place tooth. The veterinary dentist says although many vets will clean animals' teeth, he's the only one in Metro performing a full range of dental services, including braces, fillings and extractions.
